Blog #3 CAA, Mama's and The Move....

Tuesday morning our intent was to get on the road early as Max had an appointment to get groomed. Got out to the car, turned the key and nothing. Then repeated that action a a few times as this could not be happening!!! Back into the house and called CAA. Oh my, that did not go according to plan. Make a call and like magic they appear. Called and got passed on to a total of 5 people until they realized that I did not want a truck sent from North Bay, I needed a local truck. Got off of the phone and called Dean to ask about local stations instead of having the car towed to Windsor. He called his garage and I got a call, "Hello. We got a call from Dean and he asked us to take care of you so we cancelled your CAA tow and we are coming instead. Yes, we are also CAA towers."

Battery jumped and Rodger who I first called George, which he found hilarious, decided that I needed a new battery. He then drilled me on did I know where this was and that garage and this and that. I appeared to be so hopeless he finally said, "Let me call my guy." Came back and told me to follow him.

Three blocks away and we were at the garage!!! He told me I was in good hands and left me. After 10 minutes I was let into the inner sanctum of the "the garage". I pulled in, stayed in the car. There were two other customers following the mechanics around watching to make sure they knew what they were doing. No one spoke. Not once. I thought to myself how this atmosphere would be different if these mechanics were women!!! It would be non stop yack like at the hairdressers.

After last weeks blog, I got a message from a woman I used to teach with at Caledon East over 20 years ago. She has a place in Florida where she spends the winters. She had read the blog and forwarded it to two friends living in Kingsville. Wow!!! One of them told her to tell me that we had to go to Schinkel's. It is actually within walking distance of the Essex house. We had been past many times and not stopped. We obediently stopped and filled a buggy. It really is an awesome butchers and if you are in the area make it a must to visit.

When I first saw one of these establishments down here, I thought it was a bar. Woops. No it isn't. I stopped in the other day for some elixir and had a chat with the employees. It was nice but not quite as nice as Kasa Kana in Huntsville.

Before we left Essex, we knew we had to visit this store. It has some wonderful British products. We made a large purchase and when we got home, I noticed most of it was Cadbury chocolate related!!!

Except for this wee jar of seafood delight. I was thrilled to find a jar of cockles. I should have taken a picture of Ray's face when I got all excited about finding cockles. I probably haven't had a cockle in over fifty years but they tasted just like I remember. I have to go back to get more and I need to ask if they have any muscles, whelks and winkles.  All my childhood favourites!!!

Yesterday was moving day. Exhausting cleaning and packing. We finally made it here to the cottage just after 2. It is situated on the shore of Lake Erie just east of Wheatly. My favourite room already is this sunroom right off of the dining room. This is where we have been eating and playing cards.

Living room with a patio going off to the right.

When Ray brought me my morning coffee this morning he suggested I got up to watch the sunrise. "It's ok. It will be up again tomorrow and the next day and ......" I can not believe how the lake has changed today. This was early morning and by now, mid afternoon, there are large areas of open water. I hope you like lake pics as there are going to be many many pictures of it over the next 7 weeks!!!

The above is a blogger surprise. No idea or I could say it is the snow storm we had yesterday....

Finally took Max for his grooming this morning. It did not go well. We had just moved yesterday and now we were leaving him with a stranger. He was very anxious but I was assured he was not aggressive in any way which was great news as he at 120 lbs. sure out weighed the groomer!!!!!

The innocent lamb going to slaughter.....in his mind.

This donkey, as I believe it is called, is just off of the laneway leading to our new place. Ray says it is pumping oil 24 hours a day. I want to know where it is going. I will be looking into that for sure.

There is a lot of this kind of scenery. I am missing the rocks, trees, rivers and lakes but certainly not the 3-4 feet of snow!!! We have three bedrooms so if you feel like a drive and a southern get away let me know and come for a visit. We would love to see you!!!

I just remember that I forgot to tell you about ordering dinner the other night. I asked if they still had their crab and lobster dip. The guy said, "No but we have another dip that is very similar it just doesn't have crab and lobster in in." I burst out laughing and there was silence on the other end. Too funny!!!!
